Julia Roberts at Cannes: making room for an emerald pendant
At Cannes in 2016, Julia Roberts wore a Chopard necklace with a pear-shaped emerald and a black off-the-shoulder Armani Privé dress, as reported by Åse Anderson in The Jewellery Editor. It is a memorable reference for a pendant with space around it.

Look at the space around the jewel
Our interpretation of the styling begins with the neckline. A central pendant can feel more deliberate when the edge of the clothing and the surrounding accessories do not compete with its outline. The empty space is part of the composition.
For your own design, try the intended chain length with the clothes you expect to wear. A few centimeters can change whether a pendant sits within an open neckline, against fabric, or uncomfortably near its edge. A full-size paper silhouette can help test the idea before a mounting is made.
Choose the center before the frame
A long pear and a broader pear create different visual rhythms. Select the silhouette first, then ask the jeweler to propose a bail and surround that work with its proportions. Request both front and side views of the design.
The two examples below are single pear-shaped emeralds from Real Gems, chosen as possible starting points for an independent pendant design. They are not the stone worn by Roberts, nor copies of the Chopard necklace.
